A Ratty Year - Not!

Friday, January 24, 2020

As we welcome the Year of the Rat tomorrow, I would like to think that this is the year where Mummy Ho watches over us wherever she may be. It’s more than 10 years ago she left us and I still remember what she tells me the traits of a people born in the Year of the Rat - the rat’s superpower is that they “pandai cari makan” - and I do think that’s pretty true. Well, as far as she’s concerned anyway.

She never relied on Papa for money to put food on the table or for her to buy her own things. From very early on I see her do lots of things that would allow her to earn or make money. Let’s see - catering, transportation for kids to school, kindergarten, tuition, weekend book-keeping and in between all that - watching Beritex (if some of you are old enough to remember, those days there were some TVs which you buy just for these extra special channels to check stock market shares and 4D number).

So mummy, here’s to you for your year! Hope you’re somewhere up there blessing us with your superpowers!

Here’s a couple of photos of our simple CNY eve dinner. Celebrating with different group of people now but still won’t forget our noisy families in the old days...

Some home-cooked, some store-bought.

Just the Beginning

Wednesday, January 22, 2020

We have entered the third week into January and just days before the Chinese New Year festivities. Not gonna be celebrating much this time round so it's gonna be a quiet weekend. Will just focus into going round collecting lots and lots of angpaos.

In the meantime, let's look back and see what I've been up to so far this year.

Spent the new year eve and the new year with family. Booked us into ALOFT Hotel hoping to catch some fireworks but alas all of them were quite far away. Will need to look for a more strategic and still inexpensive location the next time.

Followed with a New Year brunch with the old Proton gang (missing a few of them) at Blonde, Damansara Heights.

Continued with our first new year "date" at Huckleberry. Pictured here is Jeff with their famous burnt cheesecake. Fat die me diet obviously did not start that day.

Did dinner and coffee with the sistas couple of days later. It was a belated Christmas do for Mrs. Stevenson coz she's such a busy bee.

And guessed who did we bumped into? Our very own celebrity! Which spurred into conversations about having a CNY lousang dinner with the old Krisbiz gang. We even appointed the organiser there and then! Lol.

Had a TLC day of hair and nails. Just in time for Chinese New Year.

Had a rich rich rich meal. Most expensive dish ever eaten at this famous De Maw Restaurant somewhere in Cheras.

Our place is still a work in progress. Hopefully all will be done by the end of Q1.

Explored new outlets. Here's coffee and cake by Bookmark Cafe. So-so but they can do Snoopy-latte-art so who cares.

I'm part of the company's sports club committee this year and here's our first activity of the year. Bowling seems to be quite the favourite.

Company's annual trip site inspection. Can you guess where this is?

Our kitchen glass panels are up! Everything is coming along quite nicely. And we'll be quite broke by the time we've moved in hahaha. Not funny. Hahaha.

Till my next post, here's welcoming the Year of the Rat.

The April Rain...

Sunday, April 14, 2013

It has been quite a hectic but slow month. Started off with end March where it was the period of Cheng Beng - a time where we revisit our dearly departed at their resting place. My Singaporean counterparts decided to do a few days trip up North to Teluk Intan and then Ipoh, my maternal grandparents last resting place.

So it was a lot of driving for me that weekend, as I decided at the very last minute on Friday to surprise Boo who was in JB for a working weekend trip by showing up at his hotel room door at 2am in the morning, after about 4 hours drive alone from Putra Heights. Then on Sunday afternoon, drove back home to pick sis on the way before making our trip to Teluk Intan - where we met up with everyone else.

Come Monday morning, we convoy-ed in 3 cars to Ipoh, where we paid our respects to Kong-Kong and Por-Por.

Kong2 + Por2's Tablet & Urn

Lots of praying...

Wanted to "predict" my luck and reading but...

The "reading" machine rosak wor...

The following weekend, I visited late mum and dad as well as Kong2 (my paternal grandfather) at the Buddhist temple in Jalan Gasing.

Late Papa & Mummy's resting place...

We brought some of Papa & Mummy's favourite food.

Well, that was all I did for Cheng Beng. The planning wasn't rocket science, but we always do the basic and simple as that was what Papa & Mummy likes keeping it simple.

One of the weekdays after that, Boo and I met up with Donna and her rascals for dinner. One of the agenda was to pass her birthday presents - and I think she loved them!

Boo with the lil' rascals.

Now, my woogies' antics. Whenever I say the word "mamam" this is the state of alertness I get from the two of them...

"Mamam!"

Of course, most of the time it wasn't a bluff...

My woogies eat almost anything!

Random shot...

Bobbi Ho's big foot!

Just last Friday on rainy evening, was on the way home from work when I decided to open my sunroof to capture a shot.

Instagrammed!

Went for a movie "Oblivion" that night with Boo and asked him to go enrol in Monsters University!

Can you spot the not?

Random posting...
One Saturday evening in Ikea Cafe...

Crazy loads of humans!

Next up! I can't wait for my very first trip to London... and Paris! So excited! And will come home very broke (am broke even before I go lah) so will start looking for free lunches (and dinners) when I get back! :)

Melaka Getaway

Friday, February 01, 2013

Took a day off on Friday last week, and I had an accumulative of 5 days off including the weekend and public holidays. So, thought of a quick road trip to Melaka with Mel, Jeff and Jess.

Managed to book a night's stay at my favourite economical lodging option in Melaka, Fenix Inn (which is like a stone's throw away from Dataran Pahlawan and Mahkota Parade, and it's actually walkable to the A'Famosa and St. Paul's Hill, as well as the famous Jonker's Walk. But we, being old and lazy, decided to drive for Satay Celup and also Jonker's walk later after that.

I did not take much photos of the trip, so some of them are taken from Jessica's photo album :)

#UJ all packed and ready to go!

1st road trip with my new wheels!

Mel discovered a quaint coffee place at Jalan Tokong.
